Let’s look at the most important FIFA 23 attacking strategies you need to master in order for you to improve your gain.
Passing & First Touch
Passing the ball and receiving it. That’s what everyone does most of the times when attacking and it’s unavoidable.
On the side of passing, first of all, you need to master the basics of passing styles, the most important passes you need to begin with, knowing these passes is good but also knowing which pass to use in the occurring moment is the best skill you need to understand.
Short Pass
Number one is the short pass where you press X on your controller and everyone knows this.
This past normally the ball is passed to the player who is standing still or moving very slow at the pace of walking because the ball is directed to his position in that moment.
Driven Pass
The second pass is the driven pass or hard passes I used to call it.
This pass the player hits the pass very hard compared to the normal short pass. This is used to find a player position long distance away from the ball holder. As the ball moves fast, it’s easy to reach the player in a short period.
To perform the driven pass, you press both the R1 plus the pass button X. The important thing the driven pass can penetrate a crowded area and reach your player's best to be used to run the Box area to find your Striker and cause danger.
The ball travels fast, and this gives less time for the opponent to react or you can also use it at the byline to find your Striker and finish a Tappan. Since the ball can penetrate a crowded area, it’s easy in these scenarios.
Ground Through Pass
The third is the ground through the pass where you press triangle on your controller, the ball is directed into the space in front of the ball receiver.
So, the ball receiver has to be a moving motion, either forward as it mostly happens that way passing the ground through past to a standstill or walking player will cause much problems to you. Your player has to be moving. There has to be a space in front.
Lobbed Pass
The fourth is the lobbed pass where you press the square button, your player lobs or lifts the ball up as the pass is directed to your ball receiver since sometimes the opponent can position his player between your two players.
Here, you use this type of pass and find your player, so it’s best when the short pass lane is blocked. Though sometimes it moves very slow, but it’s the best during these scenarios.
You can also use this pass as a cross to find your player inside the box and finish the goal. You spot that player inside the Box free, get an open angle and use this pass to cross to your player.
Lobbed Through Pass
The last pass is the lob through pass, where you press the L1 plus triangle on your controller.
It’s an aerial pass similar to the locked pass, but the different is that the ball is directed to the space in front. So, your ball receiver has to be moving forward. Then, it will work perfectly that moment since sometimes the ground through pass lane could be blocked by the opponent’s Defender. Here, you use this type of pass and find your player.
There are many types of passes on the game, but these are the best basic ones you need to first implement into your attacking game.
On the side of controlling the ball, this is one of the most important skills you need to master. Controlling the ball and you often don’t lose it and you need to turn into the space away from the pressure direction. You need to spot the direction where the opponent’s Defender is coming from. Then, put your player in between the ball and that Defender.
And if there’s space in front of your player, feel free to receive the ball while sprinting, exploit that space in front. But always, it’s a safe touch as the basic first focus on the basic techniques first, then implement some advanced ones, which you will discover in the learning process. It’s only about controlling the ball safely, but you can also fake your first touch to trick your opponent. You spot your next options, then you take your first touch in the opposite direction. This is to convince your opponent to commit to that side, then you immediately turn away and use your options.

Dribbling
Dribbling is one of the important skills you need to improve your attacking game on any FIFA game. We have the overpowered dribbling tricks, but you need to first master the basics of dribbling for you to improve your game.
The first advice I give you is to sprint less all over the pitch. Avoid over using the sprint button, especially when it’s not a counter-attack, the opponent’s defense is stable with great shape. Though there are times when you need to sprint, but we shall talk about that.
Later, what about dribbling one-on-one against the opponent’s Defender? Here, you make sure you put your player in between the ball and the opponent’s Defender. Here, you can keep the ball safe and prevent the opponent from tackling it easily, though sometimes you need to take a risk and try and beat the opponent’s Defender, using any tricks you got. It’s not always turning away and protect the ball. Sometimes, try and challenge the Defender especially in the final third inside or around the box.
But in the case of mastering how to dribble, first learn the basic. Put your player in between the opponent’s Defender and the ball.
Fake Directions
Sometimes, the opponent can read this. If he’s smart, he can read your turns and trap your player. That’s why you need to avoid being so direct in your dribbling movements.
Try faking some directions. It’s not always reacting to the opponent’s Defender, but you can also try and make the opponent react to your movements by faking directions and create open spaces or passing lanes for yourself.
Agile Dribbling
We have the agile dribbling feature, which was added to the game that was FIFA 21 by then. This trick is where you hold the R1, then start moving your left analog and your player will make quick ball movements, alternating the ball between both feet.
But that’s not how we can use this trick effectively. You can use this trick to make a quick sharp turn with our Dribbler. While facing to a normal horizontal direction, you can hold the R1, then push the left analog to the direction you want your player to turn to. Here the player will make that movement very quick and sharply
Strafe Dribble
Then, we have the strafe dribble. This was introduced on FIFA 20 where you hold L1, then move your left analog, your player moves the ball very close to his feet.
Though it’s rarely used in the game, but still we have some ideas where you can implement it effectively and it works. This can be used to bait the opponent into moving his Defender to a certain direction, then you turn away in the opposite direction. This is very good if it’s done with the first reaction first. You need to be the one .
Planning that by moving your head first. Some opponents tend to over commit to one direction, so use this trick and beat that Defender and if you add that Sprint effect on this trick, it will boost your player, making him to explode away from the Defender. But don’t overuse as it will become predictable. Your opponent will get used to it.
Though these tricks are good, but the left analog dribble is what you need to first feel comfortable with in order for you to use these tricks effectively.
Drive Into The Space
Lastly, is to drive into the space. I know we earlier talked about sprinting that we need to sprint less but if there’s space, try and exploit it. Drive into that space and you will realize how effective it is.
One, it adds momentum into your attack. It’s always that slow dribble that will unlock the opponent’s defense, but pace also can do the job for you.
Two, it forces the opponent to make a decision either to allow you and drive into the space and head further towards his goal or he has to run and close up that space. And sometimes, this leads into mistakes like over committing to a certain direction.
If you sprint into the space, your opponent will try his best to catch up. This forces him to open up some options for you to utilize and not only that, but it also baits your opponent into aiming for the ball. But here, he drives his Defender out of position unknowingly because he tries to stop your player from advancing further forward.
Besides that, you can even split the space to open up that passing lane if the passing lane is closed and there’s space in front of that ball holder. Drive forward and this really surprised the opponent. He’s not expecting at that moment.
You’ll also need to add some strong players to your team by using FUT 23 Coins if you want to win more games. That way, your team is sure to dominate the field when you are mastering these techniques!
