MLB The Show 23 features the Road to the Show career mode, which allows players to experience the thrill of being on the field or at the plate while working towards making it to the major leagues.
This mode offers a high-quality gameplay experience that lets you envision yourself as a professional athlete, making it a popular feature among sports game players.
No matter if you're creating your own custom player or taking over the role of a real-life ballplayer, Road to the Show mode in MLB The Show 23 offers a thrilling experience of navigating through the minor leagues all the way to the big leagues.
To help you progress smoothly, this beginner's guide will provide you with valuable tips on building your character, choosing the best perks and equipment to help you succeed, and advancing through the minor leagues with ease. By following these tips and putting in some hard work, you'll be one step closer to achieving your dream of becoming a pro player in the major leagues.
Building Your Ballplayer
In Road to the Show, the initial choice that shapes your gameplay experience is deciding whether you want to create a custom character or play as a real-life player.
It's worth noting that while character appearance customization is available, it's not mandatory, and players can opt for a generic body type to save time. Nonetheless, playing as a custom character is recommended for the best experience.
When creating your ballplayer in Road to the Show, you can customize their appearance before choosing their position.
Opting to become a two-way player allows you to experience all aspects of the game, including hitting, fielding, and pitching, which offers a well-rounded gameplay experience. However, if you prefer focusing on specific areas, you can choose a specific position or pitcher role accordingly.
Skill Sets And Perks
In Road to the Show, once you have finished building your player and have chosen your desired position with a cost of MLB 23 Stubs, you will enter the MLB draft. During this process, team representatives will ask you a series of questions that can affect your draft order.
Once drafted, you can view your Skill Set in the locker room. This feature adds a layer of realism by simulating the draft process and allowing players to see their skills in action within the game.
Players will begin with a starter Skill Set that can be enhanced and expanded upon as they progress through the game.
For power-hitters and hard-throwing pitchers, the starting Skill Set is called Cheesy Slugger, which provides a boost to those specific attributes. This allows players to customize and fine-tune their skills to fit their individual playstyle and become the best player they can be within the context of the game.
Players can monitor their performance throughout their career by checking their My Ballplayer menu. Here, they can view their overall rating and how they stack up against the rest of the league in three categories: pitching, fielding, and running.

The performance in each category is displayed through a separate gauge, allowing players to keep track of their progress and make adjustments to improve their skills in specific areas of the game.
Perks can be equipped with Skill Sets to provide additional attribute boosts. It's worth noting that some Perks can have negative effects, while others solely offer increases. Moreover, by equipping higher-quality Skill Sets, players can unlock up to a total of four Perk slots.
Apart from Skill Sets, different gear, including batting gloves and cleats, can have an impact on player attributes. While some clothing items provide added protection, others can offer special stat boosts and perks to enhance a player's performance on the field.
Reaching The Majors
Once you have customized your player and selected your desired position, you can jump into playing games without having to return to the clubhouse.
As a player, you have the option to play multiple games in a row, providing a more immersive gameplay experience. Once you're satisfied with your player's build, it's time to step onto the field and compete against some of the toughest opponents in the league.
Players also have the opportunity to increase their attributes and improve their skills through various means. On off days, players can participate in drills like batting practice designed to improve specific attributes.
Additionally, a player's attributes can increase or decrease based on their performance in the game. As a player progresses, they will face tougher opponents and will need to adapt and improve their skills to stay competitive in the league constantly.
From time to time, you may encounter Dynamic Challenges while pitching or batting, which present opportunities to quickly enhance your attributes or earn Program Stars as part of the Skill Set Program.
These rewards can be valuable and provide additional incentives for completing the Challenges successfully.
Utilizing these Dynamic Challenges to enhance your abilities will accelerate your progress, bringing you one step closer to being called up to the majors. By taking advantage of these opportunities, you can improve your chances of reaching your goal in a shorter amount of time.
